People often ask me for podcasts recommendations, so I thought writing a post about it would make it easier to share. Here are the podcasts that I (regularly) listen to. I will try to keep it updated as much as I can.

Business

The Twenty Minute VC (20VC)

20VC (as the name implies) focuses on venture capital, entrepreneurship, and startups, but what makes it truly interesting to me is Harry’s inspiring guests. It’s fascinating to see how these successful individuals think, function and lead their teams or companies. My favourite part of the show is the end of each episode - the “quickfire round” - where you get a sense of who the guest truly is.

For Immediate Release (FIR)

The FIR Podcast has been around for ages but never stopped being relevant. It’s the very first podcast I’ve ever listened to in 2005, when it was still named the The Hobson & Holtz Report. If you are into communication or public relations, this is for you! Or as they put it:

An expert panel analyzes the week’s news in digital and social media for communications professionals.

One Step Beyond: The Cadence Leadership Podcast

Hosted by Aram Arslanian - a well-known and respected individual in the punk and hardcore scenes - the One Step Beyond Podcast has it all: inspiring guests, thought-provoking conversations, and concrete advice. I recommend you check out this podcast for an alternative perspective on business and leadership, focusing on DIY ethos, community and passion.

One Step Beyond is a podcast about transformation through leadership. On our show, we have conversations with people who are creating change in business, in their community, and in their lives by choosing to lead. This is about daring to overcome barriers, push past limitations and reshape our present and our future.

Computers / Science

Command Line Heroes

Produced by Red Hat, Command Line Heroes brings you stories about the beautiful world of open-source and how the tech industry has evolved in the last decades. Recommended for nostalgic nerds.

Command Line Heroes tells the epic true tales of how developers, programmers, hackers, geeks, and open source rebels are revolutionizing the technology landscape.

Culture

History of the 90’s

If - like me - you were born in the 80s, you probably have a lot of specific memories from the 90s. Movies, news, cults, they have it all on the History of the 90’s podcast!

On History of the 90’s we’ll travel back in time through the stories that defined a decade. The last 10 years of the 20th century was a time like no other, from Columbine to Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Seinfeld, Air Jordan, and the Spice Girls …if it happened in the 90’s you’ll hear about it on this podcast. Join Kathy Kenzora as we journey through the History of the 90’s.

Filmshake

Filmshake is the ideal podcast for 90’s movies nostalgics. It is often opinionated but always entertaining!

A monthly podcast about 90’s movies, featuring humorous takes, recommendations, and trivia battles.

Marked For Life

I’ve known Davin for years, and she now hosts what I think is the best hardcore podcast. Or should I call it a radio show? Either way, check it out to discover newer bands and songs.

Hardcore for hardcore. New shit only, sick shit only. 10ish songs, 10ish bands, 2X a month.

Forge Ahead

Forge Ahead is an Australian hardcore scene-focused podcast but regularly welcomes guests from all around the world (look for the episodes with Sunny Singh/Hate5six or Todd Jones). It’s super informal but very entertaining.

Codec Projects

Codec Projects was initially a 6 part docu-series from Emmy Award-Winning Filmmaker & Hardcore vocalist Anthony Moreschi (Ten Yard Fight). It now also includes a rad podcast with a diverse crowd of guests: musicians, skateboarders, artists, etc. Very inspiring stuff!

the Vanflip Podcast

If you come from the punk, hardcore, or metal scene, you know Lambgoat. In addition to the website, they now host a podcast where they interview (mostly) band every week.

The Vanflip Podcast (#VFP) is not your typical Q&A interview-type podcast. A relaxed and in-depth conversation into the minds of some of the biggest names in the Metal, Metalcore, Hardcore, and Entertainment Industry.

Office Ladies

Any The Office fans in the room!? Make sure to check the Office Ladies for commentary and behind-the-scenes stories for every Office episode ever released.

The Office co-stars and best friends, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, are doing the ultimate The Office re-watch podcast for you. Each week, Jenna and Angela will break down an episode of The Office and give exclusive behind-the-scene stories that only two people who were there, can tell you.

True Crime

My Favorite Murder

Like many people, I’m oddly fascinated by true-crime. If you had to pick just one true-crime podcast, MFM should be the one. Karen and Georgia are hilarious, and their endless rants will definitely make you smile, even on a bad day.

My Favorite Murder is the hit true crime comedy podcast hosted by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark. Since its inception in early 2016, the show has broken download records and sparked an enthusiastic, interactive “Murderino” fan base who come out in droves for their sold-out worldwide tours.

Crime Junkie

The Crime Junkie Podcast takes a slightly more serious approach but is as fascinating as MFM. The format is also a little shorter if that’s something that matters to you.

Sports

CyclingTips

Follow this podcast by the Editors of CyclingTips for global cycling news, opinion, and analysis.

CyclingTips is a podcast that seeks to share the beauty of cycling and to inspire cyclists of all levels to become better and more knowledgeable riders. And for those intrigued by the business side of things, From the Top delves into how some of the most iconic cycling brands came to be.

From The Top

I’ve always been fascinated by founder stories, especially when they started sports companies. From The Top (another great podcast from CyclingTips) tells these fascinating stories through interviews with founders in the cycling industry. Strava, Zwift, The Sufferfest, they’re all there!

The Cycling Podcast

I’ve discovered the Cycling Podcast through their daily coverage of the Tour de France. They also cover the Vuelta and several Classics. The podcast includes a tech show called the Service Course and the Cycling Podcast Féminin focused on the world of women’s professional cycling.

Expect a mix of insight and analysis as our three experienced journalists cover not just the big talking points but take you behind the scenes of professional cycling. The Cycling Podcast is hosted by Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe with a cast of guest presenters joining the team at the grand tours. Episodes are released weekly, and daily during the grand tours.

TRAINED

What I like about TRAINED is the focus on more than the sport only. Worth a listen!

Mindset. Movement. Nutrition. Recovery. Sleep. Turns out the same five tools that pro athletes use to break records can help us all stay healthy, happy and strong. On “Trained,” Nike senior director of performance Ryan Flaherty sits down with these athletes — along with psychologists, researchers, physicians, trainers and other experts — to reveal the most powerful, practical and surprising lessons in holistic fitness.

Le Run Down

Canadian running focused podcast. While I don’t know most of the guests, they’re always inspiring people.

This podcast allows runners to connect and envision what they could become. Everyone starts somewhere but it’s how you move forward that determines which path you’ll take. For some, running is just exercise, however we believe it is much more than that: it’s mental, physical and in some cases even spiritual. Our guests are inspiring in terms of their accomplishments but they put one foot in front of the other just like everyone else.

Series

BBC Lazarus Heist

Reading The Lazarus heist: How North Korea almost pulled off a billion-dollar hack made me want to know more about this fascinating story. BBC has a great series about how the whole thing unfolded. Check it out and immerse yourself in the crazy world of hacking, money laundering, cyber slaves, and North Korea.

CBC’s Uncover Season 1 — Escaping NXIVM

Terrifying yet fascinating series about the NXIVM cult, including interviews with a woman who managed to escape it.

NXIVM (pronounced “Nexium”) calls itself a humanitarian community. Experts call it a cult. Uncover: Escaping NXIVM is an investigative podcast series about the group, its leader Keith Raniere and one woman’s journey to get out. From CBC Podcasts and CBC News.

News / Current Affairs

The Daily

This podcast produced by the New York Times reminds me of my youth mornings, listening to the news on the radio while eating breakfast.

This is how the news should sound. Twenty minutes a day, five days a week, hosted by Michael Barbaro and powered by New York Times journalism

Intercepted with Jeremy Scahill

Pure news and commentary, no bullsh*t.
